  1. I hosted and played The Hall of Bones and it was a total blast of an adventure. Both groups had a wonderful time. The simplicity of the adventure coupled with the four pre-generated core classes ensured the old school feel was present throughout the entire game. In both sessions, the game lasted just at 3 hours if not a little less than that. The diverse use of common monsters, deadly flora, traps, and unique encounters ensured all players were able to utilize their class abilities and survive the next challenge. The maps that came with the adventure were well done and certainly re-enforced the old school feel that Swords & Wizardry best represents of any of the clones in the current market. Well done and looking forward to the next Free RPG Day and support from FGG and S&W.

  2. I hosted Hall of Bones twice for my groups and each group loved it. I didn't use the pregen characters, instead having the groups roll their own, with each group being larger than the intended size. I had several new players and quite a few older ones, and the feedback I received from them was more to the tune that it seemed to 'trap' or 'trick' old-school players in one of the encounters due to preconceived notions and looking at one bit of it, while the newer players wanted to try doing as the module intended after the experienced player's solution backfired. FYI Bill Webb, the same thing happened to the second group, but with much more disastrous results, even with more detailed emphasis on the cage before the rest of the room. I don't want to give details but it was lighting a fire that started it the second time as well.

  3. my friends and i just opened a game store on long island and we made sure to have hall of bones as a store event. 3 players (including me) + the GM...i don't want to spoil the adventure, but it was a glorious TPK in the spider room. we pulled some 1st level pregens out of another S&W module and headed back in...where we were promptly TPKed again, this time by a hammer wielding ghoul. it was awesome and so much fun - people were watching us play and started grabbing up the module due to our enthusiasm.

    1. Something I did for my group to get them back in the fray quickly was to use Alex Schroeder/Adrian Shiehs's Labyrinth Lord Character Generator to quickly roll up new characters with equipment. The table loved it and it helped the brand new people get into the game.

  4. Hi Rachel,

My only success on Noble Knight was "Hall of Bones", and a steampunk die. I've threatened all the local kids, well, anyone without an AARP card, about grabbing my mail. So, I will be reporting shortly.

  5. I showed up a bit late to my local game store and Hall of Bones was the only Free RPG day module they had left for grabs (and I got the last copy at that!). I really couldn't be happier, because after reading the "An Old-School Primer" section, I was utterly hooked. Imagine my surprise when I got home to discover I had a copy of S&W Complete sitting on my computer (from the Reaper Bones Kickstarter).

Needless to say, I had to try the Hall of Bones out, so I ran it for one member of my regular game group and two other friends who had never played tabletop before. The game went brilliantly, and everyone had a blast. As relatively straightforward as the module seemed at first, it actually took our group a good few hours to get to the Golden Cat, but a good time was had by all.
